Details

Biosphere reserves are sites distinguished under the UNESCO “Man and the Biosphere” programme as model regions for sustainable living, economic management, and research. The unique character of such biosphere reserves is determined by the diversity of nature, culture, and exploitation. The Wienerwald is situated in the Austrian provinces of Lower Austria and Vienna. On the occasion of its fifth anniversary, the Biosphere Reserve Wienerwald is presented with a very special gift: a book, conceived as a testimonial bearing witness to the diversity of the fruitful interaction between the megapolis Vienna and its country neighbour Lower Austria.

111 people who work or live in the biosphere reserve Wienerwald, or who are personally involved with the region, have contributed 111 short papers to this book, sharing not only their knowledge and experience, but also generously disclosing their affection for this unique cultural landscape.
