Helmut Habersack, a renowned expert in hydraulic engineering and river research, appeared as a guest on the ORF talk show Stöckl Live on 16 July 2026.

In conversation with Barbara Stöckl, Habersack spoke about his fascinating research on rivers around the world, from New Zealand to Canada. He spoke of his experiences on the Waimakariri River and how they had shaped him. His expertise in flood protection and his involvement in UNESCO’s “World’s Large Rivers Initiative” were also discussed.

Habersack’s remarks on the state of Europe’s major rivers, such as the Rhine and the Danube, were particularly fascinating. He made it clear that the effects of climate change are already being felt and that international cooperation is essential to overcoming the challenges, particularly in the Danube region.

You can find out more about Helmut Habersack’s fascinating work in his book Water is Life. It offers an in-depth insight into the world of rivers and the importance of water for our planet.

The outdoor exhibition “Eaten Up! – Use Instead of Waste” by Isolde and Dieter Bornemann is on display from now until the end of October in Carinthia, in the permaculture garden of the “Standhotel am Weissensee”.

“It’s brilliant that, following ‘Festival La Gacilly-Baden Photo’, the photo exhibition has now moved on to Lake Weissensee in Carinthia and is being presented to the public in an accessible way,” said photographer and TV journalist Dieter Bornemann.

And Isolde Bornemann, author of the book Aufgegessen!: “What more could one wish for? The Aufgegessen! exhibition in my home region of Carinthia, overlooking Lake Weissensee – open to all, locals and tourists alike.”

The photo exhibition brings home the unimaginable scale of food waste. 75 kg of food – that is the amount that, according to statistics, each and every one of us throws away at home every year. This was used to create a still life, which was then photographed. Eleven families kept a record of the food they threw away over a four-week period. These items were then repurchased and photographed alongside the families. They were then interviewed about their experiences and insights. There is also an unannounced glimpse into the families’ fridges captured on camera. “The exhibition subtly encourages visitors to reflect on their own habits without being preachy. It has had a positive impact on me, my shopping habits and the contents of my fridge,” says Andrea Vaz-König, board member of the ‘Zukunft Essen’ association and managing director of ‘Standhotel am Weissensee’.

A large number of guests accepted the invitation to attend the presentation of this extraordinary work at the Austrian Film Museum on Saturday, 25 April. To set the scene for the theme, the film “natural history” – an artistic interpretation of the Vienna Natural History Museum by the American filmmaker James Benning, who also contributed an introductory essay to the book – was screened.

Alessandra Thiele, Deputy Director of the Austrian Film Museum, welcomed the art-loving audience. James Benning, along with the Film Museum’s Director Michael Loebenstein, sent a video message. William C. Eacho, former US Ambassador to Vienna, placed the American artist, photographer and author of the book, Dona Jalufka, in an international context, whilst Reinhard Golebiowski provided fascinating insights into the history of the museum and its collection of around 30 million objects.

Christian Köberl, former Director General of the NHM, hosted the afternoon’s proceedings, eventually leading into the Artist Talk: Publisher Lois Lammerhuber and Dona Jalufka discussed photography and art in general, and art and preserved specimens in particular. It was exciting, interesting and also educational, and of course the subsequent book signing and refreshments at the Film Museum bar were not to be missed.

Edition Lammerhuber joins its authors, Isolde and Dieter Bornemann, in celebrating their GOLD award in the ‘Books on Sustainability’ category at the prestigious ICMA Awards, which were presented in London on Monday 9 March 2026, on the eve of the London Book Fair.

Since 2010, a distinguished international jury of experts has presented the ICMA Award annually. It is a global competition for corporate media, books, corporate design and magazines, providing an overview of contemporary graphic design; its primary aim is to promote the exchange of creative ideas at an international level and to identify trends.

The jury’s statement:

AUFGEGESSEN!
Edition Lammerhuber
ICMA Award: Gold

“Aufgegessen!” won over the jury with its unconventional format and original concept, which powerfully highlights the everyday issue of food waste. Families document their relationship with food, and Dieter Bornemann translates this into striking, visually powerful images. Facts, personal insights and creative recipes come together to form a passionate plea for a more conscious and sustainable approach to food. A particular highlight are the photos of open fridges.

What a wonderful exhibition opening evening in memory of the great Stern photographer Volker Hinz. The exhibition of the same name, based on his posthumous book ‘In Love with Photography’, attracted numerous photography enthusiasts to the opening on Thursday, 5 February 2026, at the Freelens Gallery in Hamburg to pay tribute to Volker Hinz.

The opening was organised jointly by Peter Lindhorst, director of the Freelens Gallery, long-time editor-in-chief of GEO magazine and author of the book Peter-Matthias Gaede, his wife and curator of the exhibition Henriette Väth-Hinz, and publisher Lois Lammerhuber.

THE EXHIBITION

The exhibition presents impressive portraits by photographer Volker Hinz († 2019) – from a very special perspective: the focus is not on the icons in front of the camera, but on the people behind it. Over decades, he met and photographed the most influential photographers in the history of photography. The long-time Stern photographer and portrait magician had them all in front of his lens – whether at official events or in the intimate setting of their homes: Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Peter Beard, Alfred Eisenstaedt, F.C. Gundlach, Annie Leibowitz, Peter Lindbergh, Lee Miller, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Sebastião Salgado and many more.

The result is a unique treasure trove of photographic history that lay waiting to be discovered in Volker Hinz’s archive. A treasure trove amassed by the passionate portrait photographer over almost fifty years of work, presenting an incomparable who’s who of photography.

Munich, January 2026 – 80 Years of PHOTO PRESSE: Hall of Fame Honors Influential Figures in the Photography Industry

Germany’s most traditional photography trade magazine, PHOTO PRESSE, is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Since December 1945, “PP” has accompanied the development of photography – from the analog darkroom to the digital revolution and the ubiquitous image culture of today.

“PHOTO PRESSE has always been a medium about people, about attitudes, and about the question of what photography can achieve in its respective time – culturally, economically, and socially,” says Wolfgang Heinen, publisher of PHOTO PRESSE.

On the occasion of the anniversary, ten individuals were honored as part of the PHOTO PRESSE Hall of Fame for their outstanding commitment to attitude, innovation, and the cultural relevance of photography. The selection was deliberately subjective, based on objective criteria – with a focus on sustainable impact, entrepreneurial courage, creative excellence, and social engagement.

“With the Hall of Fame, we want to show that photography is much more than just a product or a trend,” explains Benjamin Lorenz, editor-in-chief of PHOTO PRESSE. “It exists where people take responsibility, dare to try new things, and have the courage to forge their own paths. That is exactly what we honor with these individuals.”

Festive Gala at the Seehaus in Munich

The Hall of Fame awards ceremony took place at the Seehaus in the Englischer Garten in Munich – in an elegant and festive setting with exclusive guests from industry, trade, media, and photography culture. The event provided space for personal encounters, retrospectives, and perspectives on the future of photography.

The evening was opened by Myriam Karsch, spokesperson for the management of the Five Monkeys Group. Wolfgang Heinen and Benjamin Lorenz hosted the awards ceremony, who presented the awards in a festive ceremony. “This anniversary celebration is a clear commitment to the future of photography – and to the people who make it possible,” said Wolfgang Heinen in conclusion.

Congratulations to our wonderful authors! Our book ‘Aufgegessen!’ by Isolde & Dieter Bornemann has been selected as a finalist for the ‘World Cookbook Awards 2025’ and is thus one of the best sustainable cookbooks in the world – an international award that we are particularly pleased about.

‘Aufgegessen!’ stands for conscious enjoyment, appreciation of food and creative cuisine that combats waste – topics that are more relevant than ever.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards are considered one of the most prestigious international prizes for cookery, food and culture publications. Every year, they honour the best books in numerous categories – from traditional cookbooks and innovative concepts to topics such as sustainability and food culture.

In 2025, 848 books from over 180 countries competed in various categories. A place in the competition finals means that a book is among the best in its category worldwide and is recognised internationally by experts in the culinary industry.

The award ceremony took place from 27 to 30 November 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of the Saudi Feast Food Festival, an international event for cuisine, nutrition and food culture. Authors, publishers, chefs and experts from around the world came together to honour the outstanding works.
