Description
PRESERVED – A NATURAL HISTORY is a declaration of love for nature and the place where it is preserved, in this case the Naturhistorische Museum in Vienna, whose collections are dedicated to scientific research as well as the public. However, Austria’s most visited museum is also a historical site with its very own building and exhibition architecture, which enters into a dialogue with the objects on display.
The work of US artist Dona Jalufka, with her background in the natural sciences, explores this Gesamtkunstwerk photographically, the diversity of nature and its history for the public. The majority of the collections are not open to the public, and so Dona Jalufka offers us a look ‘behind the scenes’ – in unexpected and impressive compositions.
