Description
Glamour depicts the magic world of costumes. The world of magical transformations full of grace and beauty and fairy-tale like elegance can be found in the costume workshops of ART FOR ART in Vienna which have been directed by Ms. Annette Beaufaÿs for the past 20 years. Thanks to their outstanding knowledge, tradition, innovation and creativity they are deemed to be the best in the world.
Annette Beaufaÿs has allowed the photographer Lois Lammerhuber to visit this dream factory and to attend the manifold detailed processing steps necessary to create a work of art fit for the stage made by the skilled and experienced tailors, milliners, shoemakers and painters from a drafted design. Based on the design which must not only visualise the magic of the role in question, the theatre costumes have to be of such excellent quality that they allow the singers, actors and dancers the utmost freedom of movement. At the same time they must be hard-wearing in order to meet the high demands of the repertory for many years. And they must have a natural and emotional feel to them, of course.
Glamour also shows how some of the greatest stars of the world of opera, like Edita Gruberova, are trying on their costumes with a sense of curiosity, or how some of the most talented costume designers, like Sue Blane – who designed the costumes for the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” – , develop the designs with passion and competence.
The texts were written by Annette Beaufaÿs, artistic director of the costume workshops, and Dominique Meyer, director of the Vienna State Opera.
Glamour was the gentlemen’s ball gift at the Vienna Opera Ball 2013 of which 3,000 copies were handed to the male guests of the Opera Ball.
