Ian Shipsey

Ian Shipsey is an British-American particle physicist. He builds silicon cameras that view the Universe in new ways: a recent image was the Higgs Boson. A member of CMS (2001-2014), CMS Collaboration Board Chair in 2013, and part of the team that built the CMS silicon pixel camera, he is now Professor and Head of Particle Physics at Oxford University. An ATLAS member since 2015, he studies the Higgs and helps build the pixel camera for the mid-2020’s LHC upgrade, and a camera for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. Silicon helps us see. It also helps us hear. Ian is profoundly deaf; a cochlear implant restored his hearing in 2003.
