Description
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) and 60 years of UNESCO water sciences, the Austrian IHP National Committee and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with UNESCO, are publishing a representative anniversary volume presenting the programme’s stakeholders and achievements.
Water is life, and it is therefore of utmost importance for humans to have a secure supply of drinking water, to be protected from floods and droughts in the wake of climate change, but also for uses such as hydropower, shipping and ecology. The book is divided into three main chapters:
1. Water for Life, which shows the importance and beauty of water in all areas with spectacular photos and explanatory texts.
2. Threats to Water: from the effects of climate change, floods and droughts to pollution and environmental problems, covering all threats, including plastics.
3. The IHP’s contribution to sustainable solutions: presentations of flagship initiatives and the Water Family.
