Description
Salt has been mined in Hallstatt for more than 7000 years. The oldest company in the world is 7000 years old and based in Hallstatt: one site, one product. For 7000 years, people have lived and worked and made cultural history in Hallstatt – to such an extent that Hallstatt named an entire Iron Age period, the Hallstatt culture. 150 years ago, mine manager Johann Georg Ramsauer decisively contributed in Hallstatt to the foundation of modern archaeology. 7000 years later, the graves in the high valley and the sites in the prehistoric adits started to disclose their secrets. Today, the team of archaeologists led by Dr. Anton Kern discover again and again breathtaking finds. In other words, Hallstatt is 7000 years of world sensations: the oldest rope in the world, the oldest staircase in the world, the oldest gloves in the world, the oldest backpack in the world.
