THE HOUSE ON THE RING celebrated its 140th anniversary. The book relates the story of the Vienna State Opera building, from the laying of the foundation stone on 20 May 1863 to the solemn inauguration on 25 May 1869, from the destruction in the Second World War to the reopening in 1955. Above all, it tells of the uniqueness of this repertoire theatre.<\/p>\n
In large-size images, ace photographer Lois Lammerhuber looks on and behind the scenes of the Vienna State Opera, accessing places usually prohibited to visitors and showing stage machinery, rehearsal rooms, and the ceiling frescos high up in the beams.<\/p>\n
With a preface by Ioan Holender, for many years director of the Vienna State Opera, and a text by long-time employees, this book provides insight into the way Austria\u2019s music icon really works.<\/p>\n
All gentlemen attending the Opera Ball 2009, approximately 3000, were presented with this book as a so-called \u201eHerrenspende\u201c, gentlemen\u2019s gift.<\/p>\n
